Narrative Communication and Satisfaction with Forgoing Low Value Care

Medical Student Fellow Eden Engel-Rebitzer led a study looking at how narratives can increase patient satisfaction when they forgo low value care. The pilot study found that patients were not dissatisfied when forgoing low value care, but that patients who received the narrative intervention had lower rates of trust in their provider than in the control group. Their findings, which can be reviewed here, suggest a need for follow-up studies.
